UPCOMING WORKSHOPS 2010:
"The Art of Vinyasa" - A Series of Workshops to empower your practice from the Yin and Yang perspective.
Yin energy is female, soft, cooling and calming. Its qualities resemble the Moon (Chandra represents the Ida Nadi, which is connected to the left nostril and is responsible for cooling the entire system)
Yang energy is male, dynamic, fiery and heating. Its qualities resemble the Sun (Surya represents the Pingala Nadi, which is connected to the right nostril and gives rise to heat in the body)
The essence of Yogic technique is in the cultivation of Prana.
We will work with practices to help ignite the subtle body (sukshma sharira) and free the physical body (sthula sharira) from its obstructions.
In this series of workshops we will explore the dynamic practices associated with building heat in the body to stimulate detoxification and cleansing of the blood and internal organs.
Themes to include: Backbends, Twists, and Arm Balances.
In conjunction we will blend the more Somatic and Restorative practices that soothe the nervous system, release mucle tension and calm the mind. Themes to include: Forward Bends, Hip Openers, Supported Backbends and Savasana.
Finding the balance between pushing and yielding in each practice is fundamental to cultivating energy and not just expending it. Each practice will explore the right effort to work intelligently and more intuitively.
Movement is a manifestation of Yang activity, and Stillness reflects the calm, cooling quietude of Yin. Finding the balance of Yin and Yang energies in yoga practice reflects a strong body with a quiet mind.
Each workshop will follow a gradual step by step approach (Vinyasa) to build a solid foundation and understanding of how to blend the Yin and Yang energies in your practice. Each workshop will also be different but will have a common thread between them.
It is recommended to attend each module concurrently however they may be attended seperately also. Some yoga experience is required. These workshops are not for total beginners.

"Blending the Yin and Yang styles"
In this workshop we will explore the dynamic practices associated with building heat in the body to stimulate detoxification and cleansing of the blood and internal organs. Poses to include: Backbends, Twists and Arm Balances
In conjunction we will blend the more restorative practices that soothe the nervous system and calm the mind. Themes to include: Forward Bends, Hip Openers and Supported Savasana.
The word ''vinyasa" is well known for it's association with the "breath movement system" of the Ashtanga Vinyasa method. However like most sanskrit words it has more than one meaning. in the context of asana it also refers to a 'step by step' approach to the correct practice of whichever asana(s) we are working with.
By creating a step by step approach we minimise the tendency to follow the path of least resistance and instead harness the blockages within. These may seem like limitations at first but transpire to give us the greatest freedom.
This workshop will serve serious practitioners and teachers alike. It is not advised for beginners.
Schedule: Saturday 10 - 12.30pm - Yang practice (Main theme: Arm Balances)
2 - 4.30pm - Yin practice
Sunday 10 - 12.30pm Yin/Yang Blend (Main theme: Backbends)
Cost: 100euro both days / 35euros per module
Location: An Seomra Yoga Studio, 2/3 Small Crane Square, Sea Road, Galway City
