UPCOMING WORKSHOPS 2010:

"The Art of Vinyasa" - A Series of Workshops to empower your practice from the Yin and Yang perspective.

Yin energy is female, soft, cooling and calming. Its qualities resemble the Moon (Chandra represents the Ida Nadi, which is connected to the left nostril and is responsible for cooling the entire system)

Yang energy is male, dynamic, fiery and heating. Its qualities resemble the Sun (Surya represents the Pingala Nadi, which is connected to the right nostril and gives rise to heat in the body)

In this series of workshops we will explore the dynamic practices associated with building heat in the body to stimulate detoxification and cleansing of the blood and internal organs.  Themes to include: Backbends, Arm Balances and Inversions.

In conjunction we will blend the more restorative practices that soothe the nervous system and calm the mind. Themes to include: Forward Bends, Hip Openers and Supported Savasana.

Movement is a manifestation of Yang activity, and Stillness reflects the calm, cooling quietude of Yin. Finding the balance of Yin and Yang energies in yoga practice reflects a strong body with a quiet mind.

Each workshop will follow a gradual step by step approach (Vinyasa) to build a solid foundation and understanding of how to blend the Yin and Yang energies in your practice. It is recommended to attend each workshop concurrently however they may be attended seperately also. Some yoga experience is required. These workshops are not for total beginners.

Workshop in An Seomra, Galway City

        on March 28th 10am -1pm

   "Exploring Backbends and Arm balances"

The art of back bending can be one of the most challenging aspects of posture work yet we find it is an important component of any balanced yoga practice. In order to work the spine with integrity we must find which area of the spine can become compromised easily. We will explore activating the weak areas of the spine, while stabilizing the areas of mobility in a search for balance and harmony in our backbends.

Focal poses: Dhanurasana, Ustrasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana
Focusing on upper body strength and awareness in our arm balances will transfer into our practice of full back bends, helping create lightness in the body.

Focal Poses: Adho Mukha Vrksasana, Pincha Mayurasana
This workshop will serve serious practitioners and teachers alike. It is not advised for complete beginners.
Cost: 35euros

Location: An Seomra Yoga Studio, 2/3 Small Crane Square, Sea Road, Galway City
