Welcome to Vinyasa Flow Yoga

What is Vinyasa Flow yoga?

This style of yoga is a dynamic blend from the lineage of Krishnamacharya, the foremost proponent of yoga in the 20th century and teacher to masters like BKS Iyengar, Sri K Pattabhi Jois , Indra Devi and TKV Desikachar.

The Approach

We cater to all levels, all ages and all abilities. We teach to professional athletes, fathers, and mothers, old and young alike. Krishnamacharyas’ unique approach to the teaching of Asana and Pranayama made it accessible to all walks of life. This is our goal to make Yoga appropriate to the practitioner not the other way around.

Our approach to teaching athletes will be different than that to middle aged women yet the benefits each receive will be appropriate to them personally.

Each session links Pranayama (Breath cultivation) with dynamic Asana (postures), taught with intelligent, safe and efficient use of awareness. Our philosophy is rooted in Ahimsa (Non-hurting) the first and most important Yama of the Yoga Sutras. We strive to teach athletes and individuals how to gain more awareness of their physical and mental experience leading them to happiness and contentment in all areas of their life.

A typical private class with one of our instructors would begin with conscious breathing (Pranayama) hip/shoulder warm-ups then flow into some Sun Salutations and Standing postures. Followed by Inversion work (e.g. handstands and headstands) some backbends, forward bends and twists and finishing with a long guided relaxation. Although we specialize in one to one instruction each class is appropriated to the majority of students with a strong emphasis on alignment, strengthening your weak areas and balancing your strengths. Modifications and variations of each posture are discussed and everyone is encouraged to move at their own pace.

Whether you are fit and athletic or out of shape and stressed we will find a program to suit your needs. To encourage the mind/body to relax we must first challenge it to expand. This can be done to equal effect regardless of your physical background. It is a myth that to take up yoga you must first be flexible or strong. Strength and flexibility are side effects to real benefits such as increased self-confidence, the ability to stay focused and calm in stressful situations and above all to feel more connected to all aspects of yourself.

Our Origin

Our direct teachers are Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty, co-founders of Yogaworks in Los Angeles, one of the largest and well respected yoga schools in the US. Chuck was one of the first certified Ashtanga teachers in the west known for his gentle and philosophical approach and Maty being a master of asana technique has written for Yoga Journal for many years. Over twenty years Chuck and Maty have taught hundreds of teachers how to refine their practice and teaching skills. Many of their students have gone on to become renowned in their own right like Shiva Rea, Bryan Kest, Seane Corn to name a few. We are blessed to be amongst this lineage of teachers going all the way back to the man himself, Krishnamacharya.

As a style of yoga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga was first formed in California where many traditions have blended over the years to help establish different yoga styles complimenting each other. We hope our approach is complimentary to the main traditions we take from, essentially Iyengar, Ashtanga and Deskichar. Our main purpose is to create awareness of body and mind, using ancient yogic techniques that have been refined to present day standards of excellence. We trust in the power of Truth and our teachings are grounded in searching for Truth of Mind and Body – leading us to Spirit.
